I’ve been taking photos for the past ten years or so, and making videos for the past two. Learning new things is something I enjoy, especially if I’m teaching myself. My interest in video began in 2008 when I did a Fellowship for Kiva.org, a brilliant web microfinance organisation, who encouraged their Fellows to explore their creative side. I did, and enjoyed it so much that I’ve continued exploring further (you can see the result below).
This was my first proper short film, filmed entirely on my Canon G9 (see the Equipment page) and a little Flip camera, and edited in Final Cut. I made a few other small and silly videos before this which I’ll probably post up too.
A Fistful Of Dollars: The Story of a Kiva.org Loan from Kieran Ball on Vimeo.
Since I got my Canon 7D, I’ve made one wedding video and one party video, and a couple of other things. Then I broke the camera. I hope to get a new one soon so I can continue filming, as the shallow depth of field is amazing.
I am also currently experimenting with HDR photography, which I love. I learned all about it from Trey Ratcliff on his great website. However I know many people don’t like it for some reason, so I will post a mix of HDR and non-HDR shots on the blog.
